AWANA

What is AWANA?

AWANA is an international, Bible-centered children's and youth ministry that provides churches with weekly clubs, programs and training for students in preschool through high school. The goal is to reach kids, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. The AWANA program has been around for over 50 years.

The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Each AWANA night consists of three main activities (1) handbook time; (2) council time; and (3) game time/snack time. Handbook time is an opportunity for children to learn various Bible verses; council time is an opportunity for children to hear a challenging Bible lesson from one of the adult leaders; and the game time is an opportunity for them to unleash their energy in some fun and friendly competition.

What is the Age for AWANA?

We have clubs for children ages 3 years old through high school.

Is there a fee?

We ask that each member pay 25 cents per week. There is also a charge for the club book and a vest or shirt once your child passes the entrance level. Those respective costs will be given to parents at the appropriate time.

What does my child need to bring?

A smile and a readiness to have a great time are the only requirements for the first night. After the first night, students are expected to bring their handbooks and wear their club uniforms (the appropriate AWANA vest or shirt).

What are the meeting times?

Our AWANA club meeting begins promptly at 6:30 and ends at 8:30 each Wednesday evening September - June. We follow the area school schedule for holidays and breaks.

Are there activities for the adults?

Yes!! Parents and/or guardians are encouraged to be a part of our club night by getting involved or by attending the Gospel Baptist Church Bible Study which begins at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. This is a sound study of the Word of God led by our Pastor.

Is this a safe place for my child to be?

For 40 years, GBC has been a part of the Richmond community and our members have worked with many area children. Your child will be under direct supervision at all times. They are led to snack, games and assembly by their adult leaders. Each class has two or more adult leaders.
